As a patient you have the right to:
a) Be registered with a named doctor.
b) Change your doctor if desired (though please note that in urgent or emergency situations, you may need to see any available doctor).
c) Receive emergency care when needed.
d) Be provided with the appropriate medications and treatments.
e) Be referred to a specialist or for a second opinion, if you and your GP agree.
f) Access your medical records or request a copy, subject to applicable laws.
g) Know that by law, all NHS staff must keep your medical information confidential.
h) As a young patient, you may bring a friend for support during your consultation with the doctor or nurse.
With these rights come responsibilities for the public. That means being:
a) Be courteous and respectful to staff at all times.
b) Arrive promptly for all appointments (if you are more than 10 minutes late, you may not be seen, and this will be at the clinician’s discretion).
c) Take responsibility for cancelling appointments with adequate notice (failure to inform us in advance will be considered a missed appointment. Missing 3 appointments within a 6-month period may result in removal from our patient list, and you will not be allowed to re-join for 6 months).
